Men’s Tennis Will Battle for First Place at Northern Arizona This Weekend

The Eagles will also be taking on Big Sky’s Southern Utah in the road trip

The Eastern Washington University's men's tennis team will continue Big Sky competition this weekend as travel to face Southern Utah on April 8 and Northern Arizona the following day on April 9.  The Eagles enter the matches in second place in the Big Sky standings with a 5-1 conference record (10-6 overall), just one win behind Northern Arizona in first place.

Eastern is coming off another successful weekend after defeating Northern Colorado by a team score of 5-2, even with missing junior Flavien Raveau from the lineup due to a back injury.

Southern Utah (4-14 overall, 1-8 Big Sky) will be coming of a 5-2 loss over Big Sky's Weber State. Currently, EWU leads the overall series over Southern Utah by a perfect 4-0. The Eagles have won all four of those matches by another perfect 7-0.

Northern Arizona (11-7, 6-1) will be coming off a 6-1 loss against Sacramento State, their first Big Sky loss of the season. The Lumberjacks will also be playing Portland State the day before taking on the Eagles. Northern Arizona leads the overall series 10-6 over Eastern. Last year, the Eagles fell to NAU by a team score of 5-2 on March 6, 2016.

Junior Scott Paz is currently the only singles player to have played in every single match and has a winning record of 8-6. Shortly behind him is senior Robert Dula who has a 7-5 record in the No. 1 spot. Raveau also has a winning record with 12 matches played with an 8-4 record, mainly in the No. 3 and 4 spots.

After this road trip, the Eagles are home for their last three dual matches of the season. EWU will take on Idaho on April 12, Montana on April 15 and Montana State on April 16. All those matches start at 3 p.m. with admission free and open to the public.

Eastern will also be a part of the Ojai Tennis Tournament in California on April 20-23 to finish out the regular season. The Big Sky Championship will take place a couple days later on April 28-30 in Phoenix, Arizona with the top six teams in the conference standings earning bids into the tournament.
