EWU Men’s Tennis Gets a Good Team Win against The Citadel

The Eagles come out on top 4-3

FULL RESULTS

CHARLESTON, S.C. –
The Eastern Washington University men's tennis team competed in their second match during their weekend in South Carolina and defeated The Citadel 4-3 to get their first team win of the regular season. They are now 1-2 overall.

Head coach Steve Clark found a familiar face on the opposing side. "Citadel's coach Chuck Kriese has been a friend of mine for 30 years," said Clark. "We used to battle when I was at Clemson – it was great to see him again."

Much like yesterday, Scott Paz had a successful day winning his singles and doubles match in the No. 1 spot. Paz teamed up with Flavien Raveau in doubles play and brought home a great Eagle win at 6-3. Following in the No. 2 spot was Victor Pereira and Jeremy Field, clinching the win at 6-2. Ricardo Almeida and Martin Bats worked together to fight a tough battle against some of The Citadel's best, but fell short 3-6. The Eagles won in doubles overall.

The Eagles found success in singles play as well, with Paz in the No. 1 spot and getting the win in two sets (7-5, 6-3) followed by Flavien Raveau who also beat his opponent in two sets (6-1, 6-3). Both are undefeated over the weekend so far. Playing in the No. 3 spot, Field competed in a long and close three sets and barely fell short (7-5, 1-6, 4-6). Jeremy Mueller sealed the win in the No. 4 spot (4-6, 6-1, 6-2). Bats lost to his opponent in a close match (2-6, 6-7) as well as Almeida who fell (5-7, 4-6) in the No. 6 spot.

"We won 4-3," said Clark. "There were many highlights such as Flavien, who had the terminator award the second day in a row after winning first in his singles match. Mueller had the clinching match to win the match 4-3 for us, so his first collegiate win as a freshman in a dual match was the game-winner. It was a hard fought and cantankerous match. Both Paz and Flavien went undefeated this weekend as well."

The Eagles will play Coastal Carolina tomorrow (Jan. 28) to close out the weekend in South Carolina. For more information on Eastern Washington's men's tennis team, follow @EWUAthletics on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
