The Eagles went undefeated this weekend after beating the Bobcats 5-2

FULL RESULTS

CHENEY, Wash. – The Eastern Washington University men's tennis team went undefeated over the weekend against Seattle U, Whitworth and closed the weekend with a 5-2 win over Montana State today (Feb. 4). The Eagles are now 4-2 overall – they have not begun conference play.

"I am very proud of the guys," said head coach Steve Clark. "We are down with injuries and sickness and we still did some solid stuff today."

Scott Paz and Flavien Raveau opened up doubles competition in the No. 1 spot -- they teamed up to beat their opponents 6-2. Victor Pereira and Jeremy Field worked together in the No. 2 spot but fell short (2-6). Ricardo Almeida and Martin Bats clinched the doubles point by winning 7-6 (7).

In singles play, Paz started in the No. 1 spot against Alexander Flink and came away with the win 6-1, 7-6 with a 2 point tiebreaker. Jeremy Field followed with a tough two sets and came away with the win.

"We were leading 3-1 after doubles and were in a similar situation to our match against USC Upstate when we lost but should have won. Field was up 40-love returning in that match to win the team match, this time he clinched the match so that was a huge obstacle for him to overcome. It was great for him to do that," said Clark in regard to Field's win.

Raveau dominated in the No. 3 singles spot winning in two sets (6-0, 7-5). Martin Bats fell to his opponent in a long three sets (5-7, 7-6, 2-6), as well as Pereira who lost (2-6, 0-6). Almeida closed out the singles play with the win in three sets (3-6, 6-1, 12-10).

"Paz went undefeated again this weekend after winning six matches," said Clark. "Raveau did extremely well today as well, overcoming his last match with them last year. It was great to see the guys turn things around. Bats has clearly been the most improved on the team and he is playing some ball. Even though he lost it was some great tennis."

Eastern's next competition will be on the road against Northern Colorado (Feb. 17) and North Dakota (Feb. 19). For more information on Eastern Washington's men's tennis team, follow @EWUAthletics on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
