EWU Men’s Tennis Travels to Sacramento for a Sunday Doubleheader

The Eagles takes on Sacramento State in Big Sky action before battling Nevada for a non-conference match on Sunday.

CHENEY, Wash. – The Eastern Washington University men's tennis team hits the road to face Sacramento State and Nevada in a doubleheader this weekend on Sunday, March 4. The Eagles take on the Hornets in a Big Sky matchup set for 10 a.m. before playing Nevada for a neutral site matchup at 2:30. EWU 6-3 overall and 2-1 in conference.

"We are looking forward to having some matches where we are fully stocked and fully loaded," said head coach Steve Clark. "Part of college tennis with such small rosters is next man up, so we take every day at a time to see who the next man is and if they're ready should the opportunity arise."

The squad is coming off a solid win at home (Feb. 24) against Weber State, 4-3. Victor Pereira had the overall winning match in the No. 6 spot to clinch the victory for the Eagles (6-4, 3-6, 6-3) and put them at a 2-1 mark in conference.

Eastern's history against conference-competitor Sacramento State is always close – Last year the Eagles won 5-2. Sacramento State has a 1-7 mark overall and is 1-1 in conference, most recently losing to Santa Clara (1-6) and Grand Canyon (1-6) last weekend.  Their eight-man roster features No. 1 singles player Mikus Losbergs.

Nevada is 6-2 overall and had yet to start conference competition. After their six-match win streak, the Wolves are coming off a weekend against Cal Poly and Loyola Marymount where they lost both matches to put them at their 6-2 mark. The last time Eastern faced Nevada was at the Golden State Invitational in 2016 where the Eagles lost 0-7.

Following this weekend, EWU will host Northern Arizona (Mar. 10) and Portland State (Mar. 11) at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Wash.
