EWU Men’s Tennis Hosts Northern Arizona and Portland State This Weekend

The Eagles compete in two more conference matches this weekend

CHENEY, Wash. – The Eastern Washington University men's tennis team looks forward to hosting Northern Arizona (Mar. 10) and Portland State (Mar. 11) this weekend. The squad sits at a 6-5 mark overall and 2-2 in conference.

Both matches will take place inside the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Wash., and are open and complimentary to the public.

Last weekend the Eagles fell to Sacramento State and Nevada (Mar. 4) in two tough matches.

Northern Arizona is currently 3-6 overall and 1-0 in conference. Coming away from their latest weekend, NAU lost to Loyola Marymount 1-6 before beating UC Riverside 4-0.  They won their only conference match so far against Portland State 6-1 in February. EWU fell to NAU last year 0-7.

Portland State is coming off a weekend in Seattle where they went 1-1 beating Seattle (4-3) and losing to Washington (0-7). The Vikings are 7-5 overall and 3-1 in conference. The Eagles and the Vikings faced off last season where the Eagles came out on top 5-2.

"It's good to be home," said head coach Steve Clark. "This year has had its trials with illness and now sprained ankles that require the next man up yet again. But we focus daily on just preparing with deliberate practice, mastery, and getting better at every position. Our goal is to drain the tank, get better at numerous phases of the game, and get healthy over the next few weeks."

Following this weekend Eastern will travel to California to face San Diego State (Mar. 27) and California Irvine (Mar. 29) for non-conference matches.
