Eastern Washington Men's Tennis to Host Washington Monday Evening

The match takes place in the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse at 5 p.m. and admission is complimentary

CHENEY, Wash. – For the second time this season, the Eastern Washington men's tennis team will take on the University of Washington. The Eagles host the Huskies today (April 16) in Cheney at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse at 5 p.m., the match is a late schedule addition due to both squads having availability on their schedules. Admission is complimentary.

"Today is a great opportunity for Eastern Washington University men's tennis. Not only is it a great opportunity for the team to play a high-caliber team like UW at home, the community can see great tennis," said head coach Steve Clark. "Coach Anger and I go back about 30 years, and like most coaches I know and play in the NCAA, it will be a hard-fought match with tons of respect."

The Eagles opened up their season against UW back on Jan. 13, but fell 7-0. Eastern is coming off a weekend at home that saw them go 1-1, narrowly falling to Southern Utah on Friday (4-3), but bouncing back against Idaho State the following day with a 4-3 decision. With three regular season matches remaining, Eastern sits at 7-10 overall and 3-5 in Big Sky Conference play. The Huskies are 12-10 overall and 2-4 in Pac 12 play and are fresh off a 4-2 victory at Utah on April 13.

"In these years of limited matches and when we don't have a conference match scheduled, coaches and I try to find schools with programs who reflect and body what college tennis about in its fairness and sportsmanship. Coach Anger and I each respect our programs for those things. We both needed an extra match and everyone was able to pitch in to get this to happen on such short notice. Let 'er rip, it is going to be a great opportunity for the guys at home."

Following today's match, the Eagles hit the road for an April 18 match at local Big Sky rival Idaho before closing the regular season in Montana. Eastern takes on Montana State on April 21 and Montana on April 22.
