CHENEY, Wash. – The Eastern Washington men's tennis team will face Idaho tomorrow (Apr. 18) for a conference match before traveling to face Montana State (Apr. 21) and Montana (Apr. 22). The Eagles are currently 7-11 overall and 3-5 in conference.
The Eagles are coming off a weekend at home where they faced Southern Utah and fell 3-4 (Apr. 13) and Idaho State where they found success, 4-3. They went on to battle Washington yesterday (Apr. 16) in a last-minute match up where Washington won 4-0.
Idaho sits at an 11-7 mark overall, 9-1 in conference and have clinched a spot in the conference tournament. The Vandals are coming off a winning weekend where they faced Southern Utah (Apr. 14) and Idaho State (Apr. 15) where they won 5-2 in both matches. They will face Boise State following Eastern for their last match of the regular season before the tournament. The last time the Eagles faced off against the Vandals in 2017 Eastern lost 1-6.
"We have had great battles with Idaho, especially starting when we beat them on our final match the first year I took over the program," said head coach Steve Clark, in reference to the 2015 season when Eastern won 4-3. "The guys know and respect each other and it will be a battle. We are looking forward to it."
The first serve against Montana State is set for 10:30 a.m., Pacific Time. The Bobcats are returning from a weekend against Portland State where they lost 3-4 (Apr. 13) and Northern Colorado where they won 5-2 (Apr. 15). Montana State is 5-12 overall, 4-5 in conference. The last time these two teams matched up in 2017 the Eagles fell short, 3-4.
Eastern's match against Montana is set for 10 a.m., PT. The Grizzlies sit at a 10-5 mark overall and 7-2 in conference, coming off a successful weekend against Northern Colorado (7-0) and Portland State (7-0). The last time the Eagles battled the Grizzlies in 2017, Eastern lost 3-4.
