MOSCOW, Idaho – The Eastern Washington University men's tennis team fell in a closely contested match to Idaho today (Apr. 18) 4-3. This puts the Eagles at a 7-12 mark overall and 3-6 in conference.
"Even though we lost, the effort was solid," said head coach Steve Clark. "This is how college matches are supposed to be. It was a battle. Jeremy Field won at No. 1, we won the doubles point with some new doubles combinations, and Victor Pereira won which was big because he has lost several three-setters lately."
Eastern clinched the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Field and Scott Paz teamed up on the first court to win 6-3, followed by Pereira and Jeremy Mueller who lost won 2-6. Flavien Raveau and Martin Bats worked together at No. 3 to get the win at 6-3.
Field took the first court in singles play and found success winning 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Paz followed at No. 2 but came up short losing 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 4-6, followed by Raveau who lost 2-6, 1-6. Pereira picked up the win on the fourth court in a long three sets, 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 6-2. Bats lost his match 4-6, 1-6 as well as Mueller (2-6, 6-4, 1-6).
"In short, when teams play their proper lineups we have amazing battles, win or lose," said Clark. "Idaho had a fair lineup and it was just a few points here or there to win the match. Today was a battle and will hopefully help us going into the weekend."
The squad looks forward to hitting the road for their last competition of the regular season against Montana State (Apr. 21) and Montana (Apr. 22). For more information on Eastern Washington's men's tennis team, follow @EWUAthletics on Twitter and Instagram and like EWU men's tennis on Facebook.
