MISSOULA, Mont. – The Eastern Washington University men's tennis team concluded their 2018 regular season today (Apr. 22) in a tough match against Montana losing 5-2. The Eagles official 2018 record is 7-14 overall and 3-8 in conference.
"The last match of the year was a couple points away from another 4-3 score," said head coach Steve Clark. "It seems we had a lot of 3-4 or 4-3 matches this year."
Jeremy Field opened up singles play in a hard-fought match but couldn't get the win at 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-5), 0-1 (7-10). Paz followed on the second court losing 1-6, 0-6, as well as Victor Pereira who lost 2-6, 0-6. Jeremy Mueller picked up the first Eagle win of the day with a two set victory over his opponent (6-4, 6-3). Martin Bats competed at No. 5 and lost 3-6, 1-6 before Ricardo Almeida picked up a win in his last match as an Eagle (6-1, 6-2).Â
"Jeremy Field represented Eastern big time again at No. 1, though he fell in the third set tiebreaker," said Clark. "Jeremy Mueller played really well at the No. 4 spot as a freshman and Ricardo Almeida got the terminator award and won his last match for Eastern at No. 6. It was outdoor tennis, the way it is supposed to be and a really nice day."
Montana clinched the doubles point with all three wins over the Eagles. Field and Paz teamed up on the first court (0-6), followed by Bats and Raveau (3-6) and Almeida and Pereira (4-6).
