PORTLAND, Ore.-- The Eastern Washington University men's tennis took on the Portland State Vikings to a loss of 5-2 today (March 2) in Portland, Ore. After today's loss the Eagles now have a 1-6 overall record and an 0-4 mark in Big Sky Conference play.
"It was another close one despite the final score," said head coach Steve Clark. "Some might say that the reason (we lost) is because we have three freshmen or a young team, but that means very little. Their two best players played number two doubles and took down
Martin Bats and
Manuel Balce handily, but we won at number one doubles and lost a break at number three. We just need to keep getting better at doubles and transition.
Jeremy Field won at number one and played a much better attack game and finished the match serving and volleying which is rare..
Wout Doumen played at the number six stop and did everything we asked: chip returns, attacking second serves and mixing up his serves in his match.
Jeremy Mueller had some very high level exchanges at the number five singles spot with both players pounding from the baseline and he came to the net more than I have ever seen him. He lost the match in a third-set super tiebreak."
