CHENEY, Wash.-- The Eastern Washington University men's tennis team travels to the Golden State this week for three matches. The Eagles will play at San Diego State (March 26), UC Irvine (March 28) and UC San Diego (March 31). The team returns to play after their 7-0 victory over Seattle last Saturday. EWU has an overall record of 3-8 and are 1-4 in Big Sky Conference play.
"The guys are really looking forward to this, as am I," said head coach Steve Clark. "Having lived and coached in southern California for 20 years it is always great to get back and connect with people, establish ties and compete hard in some great tennis. When you have been doing this as long as I have, the coaches you start competition against are coached by former players I have coached or my teams have played against, so it is fun on many levels."
Eastern will first take on San Diego State at the Aztec Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif. SDSU has an overall record of 5-5 with victories over; UC Irvine (4-3), UC San Diego (6-1), San Francisco (4-3), Portland (5-2) and UC Davis (4-0). The Aztec's are led by head coach Gene Carswell, who is in his 16th season as head coach. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m. Pacific time.
Following their match against SDSU, the Eagles will then travel to Irvine, Calif., to take on UC Irvine. The Anteaters have an overall record of 9-4, with just four losses against; Utah State (2-5), San Diego State (3-4), BYU (0-4) and Utah (0-7). The match is set to begin at 10 a.m. PT.
Before returning home, Eastern will take on UC San Diego. The Tritons have an overall record of 5-8 and they are led by head coach Timmer Willing, who is in his sixth season as head coach. The match is set to begin at 10 a.m. PT.
After their three road matches this week, the Eagles will return to play April 6 and 7 when they travel to Southern Utah and Northern Arizona.
