SAN DIEGO, Calif.-- The Eastern Washington University men's tennis team lost to San Diego State today (March 26) 7-0. After today's loss, the Eagles now have an overall record of 3-9 and 1-4 in Big Sky Conference play.
"We had some ups and downs in this one for sure," said head coach Steve Clark. "
Wout Doumen was up 4-2 with game point to go to 5-2 in the second but couldn't pull it out.
Jeremy Field and
Mikayel Khachatryan were up in their matches. Jeremy won the first set but fell in a third set tiebreaker and Mikayel won the second set and was up in the tiebreaker. In doubles,
Jeremy Mueller and
Wout Doumen were two points away from the match when SDSU clinched the point."
"The main theme after the match was that I challenged them to take what they've had in some of their losses and promise themselves to methodically fix those issues," added Clark. "I also reminded them that there's an old saying, "There is no I in team." However, I think that is inaccurate. There is an "I" as each person has to take care of themselves the best way they possibly can and do everything to make themselves the best they can be, as well as the team. There can be no weak links. They have to be selfless as a teammate, but at the same time they have to be persistent at being the best they can be in putting in the extra effort."
