Eagles Face Sacramento State this Friday for First Big Sky Conference Match

Men’s tennis looks for rematch after last season’s home opener deficit to Sac State

CHENEY, Wash. – The Eastern Washington University men's tennis team is on the road for its first Big Sky Conference match of the 2020 spring schedule this Friday (Jan. 24) against the Sacramento State Hornets. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. Pacific time at the Sacramento State Tennis Courts.

Eastern returns to play after postponing its match against Seattle University last Sunday. EWU faced Oregon two weeks ago in Eugene, Ore., but were defeated by the Ducks 7-0. Both the Eagles and the Hornets have a record of 0-1 leading up to Friday's conference match.

Last season, EWU hosted Sac State in its first home match of the 2019 spring season and fell short 4-3.

The Hornets are led by head coach Kevin Kurtz, who is in his 15th season at the helm. Sac State finished tied for second last season with a 7-3 conference record after losing to Idaho State in the quarterfinal round of the conference tournament. As a team they were picked to finish sixth according to the 2020 Big Sky Preseason Coaches' Poll. Sacramento State is coming off a 7-0 deficit against Pepperdine on the road last Sunday.

Following EWU's match against the Hornets, the Eagles return home to host Whitworth on Feb. 1 at 11 a.m. PT at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse.
