CHENEY, Wash. – The Eastern Washington University men's tennis team kicks off the 2020 spring schedule on the road as they look to face Oregon this Saturday (Jan. 11) in Eugene, Ore. The squad was selected to finish 11th in the 2020 Big Sky Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the league on Wednesday morning (Jan. 8).
"We are looking forward to a great weekend. I have a good team alongside myself and hopefully after the weekend I will have a good idea of where my player's skill level and confidence are at," said head coach
Jared Burnham. "I expect my players to go out and work hard, compete and have fun."
During the fall leading up to the 2020 spring schedule the Eagles hosted the EWU Fall Classic as well as participated in the ITA Regionals and UW UTR Invitational where they had opportunities to compete in both doubles and singles matches.
KNOWING YOUR OPPONENT: OREGON
The Eagles have yet to find victory over Oregon as they have an all-time series record of 0-12 versus the Ducks. Oregon is led by 12
th year head coach Nils Schyllander who helped his team wrap up a 13-10 overall record and a 1-7 conference record last season.
Prior to the 2020 spring season the Ducks competed in five tournaments in the fall during the months of October and November. These tournaments included the ITA All-American Championship, UCSB Classic, ITA Northwest Regional Championships and ITA National Fall Championships as well as hosting the Duck Invitational. Eastern Washington will be Oregon's first competition of the year.
