Covid-19 testing on Wednesday (Dec. 30) didn't go well for the Eastern Washington University men's basketball program, as a confirmed positive case has jettisoned this weekend's Big Sky Conference home games versus Portland State.
Â
The Eagles were to host Portland State on Thursday (Dec. 31) at 6 p.m. and again Saturday (Jan. 2) at noon. Eastern has been in contact with the league office and Portland State in hopes that the games can be made up in lieu of outright cancelation. However, the league office has indicated that "at this time, Big Sky Conference basketball games that are canceled will not be rescheduled."
Â
Both programs entered this week's action 2-4 overall, with EWU winning its league opener at Northern Arizona in its last game on Dec. 19 and having a game the day earlier canceled. Portland State split its opening weekend of league action versus Weber State.
Â
Eastern will follow protocols to determine the impact of the positive case on its upcoming schedule. The next scheduled games are a two-game road trip to play Weber State, scheduled for Jan. 7 and 9. Weber State had its games canceled this week because of Covid-related issues within Idaho State's program.
