KNOWING YOUR OPPONENT: GONZAGA

The Eagles faced the Bulldogs in the fall during the EWU Fall Classic Tournament where they hosted both singles and doubles play at the EWU Tennis Courts. EWU has an overall series record of 36-30 versus Gonzaga and is currently sitting at a five-match losing streak with their last victory dated back to February of 2012.

Along with the EWU Fall Classic, Gonzaga competed in the ITA All-American Championships, ITA Northwest Regionals, Easley Memorial, Gopher Invitational and the Gonzaga Invite prior to the 2020 spring schedule. The Bulldogs are 3-2 overall with their two losses coming from Western Michigan and Baylor.

The squad is led by head coach Jonas Piibor who enters his second season at the helm. Last season, Piibor led his team to a 16-8 overall record and a second place finish in the West Coast Conference with a 7-2 conference record. Gonzaga also returns senior Sam Feit who was awarded All-WCC Singles First-Team last year.

KNOWING YOUR OPPONENT: WASHINGTON

The Eagles have yet to find victory over the Huskies as they have an overall series record of 0-15.

Prior to the 2020 spring season, Washington competed in the ITA Northwest Regional Championships and hosted the Husky Invitational.

The Huskies are 5-2 overall with a one-match losing streak after falling to San Diego on the road last Sunday. The squad will face Pepperdine on Saturday (Feb. 8) before hosting the Eagles on Sunday (Feb. 9).

Washington is led by 26th year head coach Matt Anger and is assisted by Chris Russel. Anger has led his team to the NCAA Championships 21 times, as he has a winning record in 21 of his 25 seasons.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Eagles will take two weeks off from competition before gearing up for the HEB Invitational on February 21-22 in Corpus Christi, Texas.
