CHENEY, Wash. – The Eastern Washington University men's tennis squad hosts Omaha on March 18 at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Wash., with the match set to begin at 11 a.m. Pacific time. The following day, Eastern heads to Spokane, Wash., to compete against Gonzaga with the match set to begin at 4 p.m. PT at the Stevens Center in Spokane, Wash. The Eagles return to non-conference play with an overall record of 0-8 and 0-1 in Big Sky Conference play.
Eastern has yet to compete against Omaha in program history. The Mavericks are led by head coach Matthew Barlow who enters his first season at the helm. Omaha has a 6-8 overall record and are currently on a two-match losing streak with losses against Oklahoma State and Wichita State, respectively.
The Eagles last faced Gonzaga in the opening match of their 2021 spring schedule and fell to a score of 7-0 at the Stevens Center in Spokane, Wash. EWU currently has an overall series record of 36-32 versus GU and is currently sitting at a seven-match losing streak with their last victory dating back to February of 2012.
Gonzaga is led by head coach Jonas Piibor who enters his third season at the helm. The Bulldogs are currently 8-3 overall and on a one-match losing streak after falling short to Cal Poly in their last match.
The Eagles host their second conference match on Friday, April 2 against Idaho with the match set to begin at 12 p.m. Pacific time at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney Wash.
