Morgan Earns an Honorable Mention Spot on TopDrawerSoccer.com's Team of the Week

The sophomore earns national recognition after her performances against Portland State last weekend

TOPDRAWERSOCCER.COM'S RELEASE

One day after earning the first Big Sky Conference Offensive Player of the Week award of her career, Eastern Washington University women's soccer player Maddie Morgan has earned an Honorable Mention spot on TopDrawerSoccer.com's Women's Team of the Week list as announced today (March 16).

The Kennewick, Wash., native helped the Eagles sweep Portland State by identical scores of 3-1 on March 12 and March 14 at the EWU Soccer Field to help Eastern start conference play 2-0 and extend a nine-match unbeaten streak against the Vikings.

Morgan has found success in every game against the Vikings, as five of her seven career goals have come against Portland State, including two in yesterday's match. In the Big Sky Quarterfinal match-up on Nov. 6, 2019, Morgan scored twice in a 3-0 victory. She also added one in a 4-1 win on the road against the Vikings on Oct. 25, 2019.

The sophomore also took five shots over the two games, four of which were on goal. She started both contests and logged 127 total minutes on the pitch.

In the first game on March 12, Morgan assisted on Kendall Pope's breakaway goal to help Eastern pull ahead 3-1 in the 84th minute. The assist was the first of Morgan's young career.

In game two on March 14, Morgan scored twice in the second half to help EWU win 3-1. The first came in the 71st minute off of a set piece that she booted into the upper seven of the net from 18-yards out to help Eastern go up 2-0. After Portland State found a goal in the 73rd minute, Morgan quickly found the back of the net again in the 75th to add some insurance.

Morgan currently leads the Big Sky Conference and the Eagles in total points with five. She is second in shots with 10 and third in both shots (2.00) and points (1.00) per game.

The Eagles (3-2, 2-0) are preparing for their first conference road trip of the season, taking on Sacramento State in Sacramento, Calif., on March 19 at 3 p.m. and again on March 21 at 1 p.m. Both games will be streamed for free on Pluto TV Ch. 1052.
