CHENEY, Wash. – The Eastern Washington University men's tennis team hosts the Idaho State Bengals this Saturday, March 6 at 1 p.m. at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Wash. Although the match will not count towards EWU's Big Sky Conference record, the Eagles look to collect their first win of the season as they currently sit with an 0-7 overall record.
Eastern returns to play after dropping its Big Sky Conference opening match to Portland State (Feb. 27) by a score of 5-2. The Eagles defeated the Vikings in doubles play with the pairs of
Wout Doumen and
Erik Sarlvik at No.2 doubles and
Jeremy Mueller and
Bruno Ortega at No.3, both collecting a 6-4 victory. In addition,
Manuel Balce picked up a singles point at the No.1 singles spot.
The Eagles have an overall series record of 10-21 against the Bengals with the last time out resulting in a 5-2 victory for Eastern. EWU has beaten Idaho State in six out of the last seven home matches against one another.
The Bengals are led by head coach Alexander Free, who enters his first season at the helm. Idaho State currently sits at 1-7 after defeating George Fox 6-1 in its last competition.
Following the match, the Eagles will take a short break from competition before hosting Omaha on March 18 at 11 a.m. Pacific time at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Wash.
