CHENEY, Wash. – The Eastern Washington University men's tennis squad prepares to host Big Sky Conference opponent Idaho for its last home match of the spring season this Friday (April 2) at 12 p.m. Pacific time at the EWU Tennis Courts in Cheney, Wash for Senior Day. The Eagles will be honoring lone senior
Martin Bats before the match against the Vandals.
Bats is from Lasne, Belgium and prior coming to EWU he studied at Notre Dame des AngesIn in the Netherlands.
In his freshman year as an Eagle, Bats competed primarily at No.4 (2-3) and No.5 (2-7) doubles for a 7-10 overall record and 4-5 in conference. The following year, Bats competed primarily at No.2 doubles (2-17, 1-9) and No.4 singles (5-14, 2-8), and during his junior year the Belgium native played at the No.4 singles (0-2), No.5 singles (1-1), No.6 singles (3-2) and competed in five matches at the No. 2 doubles spot (2-2, 2-1).
The Idaho Vandals are currently 4-4 overall and returning to competition following a 4-3 victory over Sacramento State. The squad is led by Daniel Hangstefer who enters his first season at the helm.
The Eagles last faced the Vandals at home in 2019 to close the regular season and came away victorious with a 5-2 win which saw
Manuel Balce,
Wout Doumen and
Jeremy Mueller each collect a win in singles play.
Following the match, the Eagles finish the regular season on the road facing conference foes Montana State on April 16 at 2 p.m. PT and Montana on April 17 at 11 p.m. PT.
