Cross Country at Cougar Classic this Friday

Eagles head to nearby Colfax to compete at a familiar site

The Eastern Washington University cross country programs travel down to compete at the Cougar Classic this Friday (Sept. 10) at the Colfax Golf Club in Colfax, Wash.

Washington State University will function as the hosts for the meet, with the women's 6,000-meter race starting at 5:00 p.m. Pacific time followed by the men's 8,000 at 5:45 p.m. PT. EWU will compete against one other Big Sky Conference school in Idaho.

Eastern began its season by hosting the Clash of the Inland Northwest on Sept. 3. The women placed third out of seven teams and the men were fourth, but all four of the top women's scorers were freshmen, and the men's top two scorers included one freshman and one sophomore.

Nicole Deherrera led the Eastern women by finishing 11th on the, 4,000-meter course with a time of 15:00.9. The top men's finisher for the Eagles was Justin Roosma who placed 12th with a time of 18:57.7 on a 6,000-meter course.

Last time out at the Cougar Classic, newly departed Isaac Barville and sophomore Kenzie Gaines were the top finishers for the EWU cross country teams with the men's team finishing sixth and the women's team finishing seventh among a total of seven schools that participated in the event.

Following the Cougar Classic, both the men and women's cross country squads will take a couple weeks off from competition in preparation of the Mike Johnson Classic dated for Sept. 24 in Monmouth, Ore.
