Final Results for MenÂ
The indoor track season for the men's and women's team continued today (Jan. 29) at the Idaho Team Challenge in Moscow, Idaho at the Kibbie Dome.

This meet was a scored meet. The women's indoor track and field team placed second with 91 points and the men's team placed third with 78 points.Â

Between the women's and men's teams seven events were won and five all-time top-ten marks were set. On the men's teamÂ
Joe Gauthier set an Eastern Washington University record.Â
Â
On the men's team, two men set all-time top-ten marks and four men placed first in their events.
Gauthier competed in the men's 60-meter dash and placed first with a time of 6.68. This time improved from the prelims where he placed third with a time of 6.90. His time of 6.68 set a facility record. This time also places him in first in the Eastern Washington all-time top-ten record book where he improved his time of 6.77 setting an Eastern Washington University record. The previous record of 6.75 stood for 23 years, set in 1999 by Johnnie Williams.
"It's very satisfying to see the whole team celebrate great performances like the ones we witnessed today. School records are rare and being in-person to watch Gauthier break the 60-meter record will be a lifetime memory for our team," explained men's head coach
Stan Kerr. "Today's performances showed what the powerful combination of talent and determination can produce. Watching Gautier dismantle the 60-meter record was a complete joy in the midst on numerous top efforts."

Daniel Gaik placed first in the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 47.70 This time set a new all-time top-ten mark in the EWU record book where he has the third best time.Â

"Following his lifetime best in the 200-meter last week, Gaik raced his lifetime best on the 400-meter today. In doing so, he now leads the conference in the 200-meter and 400-meter," stated Kerr.

Zach Klobutcher placed first in the men's pole vault with a mark of 16-3 ½.
Bobby Say also placed first in the men's long jump with a mark of 23-8 3/4.Â

"In the field events, Say once again showed why he's a great candidate to contend for conference title in the long jump. His consistency week to week is testimony to his talent and determination to be the best in the Big Sky," explained Kerr. "Klobutcher gave the crowd a show on the pole vault. He won the event and nearly broke the school record, which he's on the path do this season." Â
"Idaho put on another great meet. Team scoring competitions are my favorite kind of meets. We held the lead for the majority of the meet but just couldn't quite hang on and pull off the win. I have to give shout outs to our event winners,
Maggie Nelson in the long jump,
Vernice Keyes in the weight throw, and
Morgan Fossen in the pole vault. Those wins were all either season's bests or personal records," explained women's head coach

Three women improved their times to set new all-time top-ten marks in
Alyssa Hoffman,
Katie Petsch, and Fossen. Hoffman placed first in the women's 60-meter hurdle prelims with a time of 9.09 but improved in the finals and placed third with a time of 9.05. Her time of 9.05 improved her all-time top-ten mark of 9.11 placing her in seventh in the Eastern Washington University record book.Â

Petsch placed third in the women's 200-meter dash with a time of 25.24. This time improved in the EWU record book from her previous time of 25.37 placing her in ninth in the all-time top-ten at EWU.Â

Fossen placed first in the women's pole vault with a mark of 13-1 1/2. This mark improved her mark of 12-9 1/2 in the EWU all-time top-ten record book placing her in eighth.Â

Mecklenburg stated, "Fossen's win in the pole vault led a one to four EWU sweep with
Katrina Terry,
Savannah Schultz, and
Hally Ruff all vaulting well."

Keyes placed first in the women's weight throw with a mark of 59-7 1/2.Â

"Nelson had a stellar day also placing second in the high jump, fifth in the shot put and ninth is the 60-meter hurdles," said Mecklenburg.

Nelson also placed first in the women's long jump with a mark of 18-1. Nelson also competed in the women's high jump and placed second with a mark of 5-2 1/4. She also competed in the women's shot put and placed fifth with a mark of 40-2.Â

"I am super pleased to see our athletes continuing to improve. It is going to pay off as we get closer to the Big Sky Conference Championships," stated Mecklenburg.Â

Eastern Washington University's men's and women's indoor track and field teams will next compete in the WSU Invitational on Friday (Feb.4) and Saturday (Feb.5) in Spokane, Wash. at The Podium.Â

Samiah Kuntz competed in the women's 6-meter dash and placed fourth with a time of 7.69.Â

Logan Allen placed fifth in the men's 60-meter dash prelims and finals. In the prelims he placed fifth with a time of 7.06 and in the finals, he placed fifth with a time of 7.02. Allen also placed fourth in the men's 200-meter dash with a time of 22.76.
