Eastern Washington men's tennis finished up its 2022 fall schedule this past weekend at the Gonzaga Invitational. Eastern competed for three days (Nov. 4-Nov. 6) in Spokane, playing multiple singles and doubles matches.
Singles
Bruno Ortega dominated his match against Montana's Josh Watkins, winning 6-1, 6-0 to advance to the round of 16 in the white bracket, east draw stage. Ortega lost his next contest against Gonzaga's Pablo Gomez Galvan 2-6, 2-6.
Steven Paz won a long match against Portland State's Jan Semerak in the quarterfinals of the blue bracket, north draw stage. Paz won 6-4 in the first, before dropping the second, 4-6. Now in the tie breaker, Paz battled out a 13-11 win. The sophomore dropped his next match against Tom Hann from Gonzaga, 1-6, 2-6.
Drew Dillon also competed well in his round of16 match against Montana's Russell George. After dropping the first set, 4-6, Dillon won the second set, 6-3, before a 4-6 loss in the third ended the match.
Erik Sarlvik battled Idaho's Bruno Casino in the Blue bracket, east draw stage round of 16. Sarlvik dropped the first set, 4-6, but won the second 6-1. Casino untimely won the match, with a 6-3 score in the third.
Doubles
In the white bracket north draw stage,
Tyler Dalos and
Bruno Ortega competed well against Portland State's Simon Kuszynski and Gregory Grunig, but dropped the match, 6-8. Â
