Men’s Tennis Resumes Big Sky Play on the Road Against Weber State and Idaho State

EWU faces Weber State on Friday and Idaho State on Saturday

CHENEY, Wash. – The Eastern Washington University men's tennis team resumes Big Sky Conference play on the road against Weber State on Feb. 25 at 10:30 a.m. Pacific Time in Ogden, Utah. The Eagles then hit the road on Feb. 26 to face Idaho State at 11 a.m. PT in Pocatello, Idaho.

The Eagles sit 2-5 overall and continue conference play with a 0-1 record after falling to Montana State (0-7) back on Jan. 23.

EWU returns after hosting Whitman College last weekend in a dominate 7-0 shutout performance. Freshmen Drew Dillon and Steven Paz teamed up at the No. 3 doubles spot to take down their opponents, 6-0. Then, in singles play, they both controlled their match by allowing only one point across the two competitions.

Erik Sarlvik and Manuel Balce showed similar strength teaming up in doubles play, allowing only two points at the No. 1 spot.

KNOWING YOUR OPPONENT: WEBER STATE

The Eagles have an overall series record of 9-12 and a two-match losing streak against the Wildcats after falling short in their last battle 3-4 back in March of 2020.

Weber State is 3-8 overall and coming off a victory after defeating Colorado Mesa 6-1 last week. The team is led by Brad Ferreira who enters his sixth-year at the helm. The Wildcats freshman Elyes Marouani currently leads the team with a 5-3 overall singles record.

KNOWING YOUR OPPONENT: IDAHO STATE

The Eagles have an overall series record of 10-22 against the Bengals with the last time out resulting in a 5-2 deficit against Eastern. However, EWU defeated ISU back in March of 2020 in a 5-2 clash at home and holds an even 2-2 record in their last four outings.

The Bengals are led by head coach Alexander Free, who enters his third season at the helm. Idaho State currently sits at 7-4 with a five-match winning streak, and has only allowed two points to be scored against in its last five competitions.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Eagles continue conference play on Mar. 6 as they travel to Flagstaff, Ariz., to face Northern Arizona at 9 a.m. PT.
