Results.
The WSU Open started and completed today (Feb. 4) while the WSU Invitational continued its second day in Spokane, Wash., at The Podium.
The day started off with the WSU Open where two Eagles won events.
Bobby Say placed first in the men's triple jump with a mark of 49-8 1/4. He also placed second in the men's long jump with a mark of 23-0 3/4.
"Today's meet was a long one, but productive on a couple of levels. The long and triple jump ran long, but Say's perseverance stood out. His marks continue to show his gifts as a horizontal jumper," explained men's head coach
Stan Kerr. "On the track, Bracken's strategy in the 400-meter paid a huge win in his winning the event."
Liam Bracken placed first in the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 49.02.
Caleb Johnson placed sixth in the men's shot put with a mark of 51-3 1/2.
Tony Chan competed in the men's weight throw and placed 14th with a mark of 49-7 3/4.
"The weight throw and shot put today were exciting as Johnson and Chan competed well, but came up a little short of their goals," said Kerr.
In the men's 60-meter dash prelims
Logan Allen placed ninth with a time of 7.01.
Race Treat placed eighth in the men's high jump with a mark of 6-4 3/4.

In the women's shot put
Kaitlyn Paller placed fifth with a mark of 43-9 1/4 and
Carissa Stovall placed ninth with a mark of 41-9 1/4.
"This WSU Open was definitely the biggest meet of the season to date. It was a great opportunity for our athletes to go head-to-head with the majority of the Big Sky schools along with a number of PAC 12 universities. Top marks go to shot putters
Kaitlyn Paller and
Carissa Stovall for making it to the finals. They are both getting close to that 45-foot mark, and I know that is what they have their eyes on," explained women's head coach
Marcia Mecklenburg.
Amanda Nygard competed in the women's mile and placed 28
th with a time of 5:29.70. This time was a personal record for her.
"Nygard had a stellar day in the mile running a personal record. It was also good to see more of our distance squad getting back into competing after coming off some health issues," explained distance coach
Sam Read.
The second day of the WSU Invitational kicked off with evening events which included women's high jump, women's weight throw, women's 5,000-meters, men's 5,000-meters, women's DMR, and the men's DMR.
In the women's weight throw
Vernice Keyes placed third with a mark of 58-8 1/2.
"In the night section of the WSU Invitational we had women athletes competing in the weight throw and distance medley.
Vernice Keyes continues to have solid performances in the weight throw. It was exciting to watch her compete with some national top 20 throwers and place third. Our women's distance medley ran for the first time this season in the night section of the meet and had a solid performance," stated Mecklenburg.
In the women's distance medley
Jenni Bissell,
Haven Nutting,
Madilynn Carr, and
Jasmin Muneton placed fifth with a time of 12:34.34.
"Our women's distance medley ran for the first time this season in the night section of the meet and had a solid performance. The team made up of Bissel, Nutting, Carr, and Muneton almost snuck into EWU's all-time top-ten performance list with their time," stated Read.
In the men's 5,000-meter
Noah Hasselblad placed seventh with a time of 14:57.82.
"Hasselblad ran a hard 5,000-meter at the end of a long day giving solid testimony to his adapting to the Division I level of track and field," stated Kerr.
In the men's distance medley Daniel Maxwell,
Noah Cherrington,
Brock O'Neal, and
Cameron Stuard placed seventh with a time of 10:40.38.
