CHENEY, Wash. – The Eastern Washington University men's tennis team gears up for two home matches beginning with Boise State this Friday, March 18 at 1 p.m. Pacific Time. The following day, on March 19, the Eagles host Big Sky Conference foe Montana at 1 p.m. PT. Both matches are set to be played inside the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse.
Eastern returns after a pair of matches in Oregon last weekend. The Eagles were edged by Portland State 4-3, and fell to Portland 7-0. As a team, the Eagles mark a 2-10 overall record and sit 0-5 in conference play.
Against the Vikings, the Eagles found victory with the pairs of
Erik Sarlvik and
Manuel Balce at No. 1 doubles and
Brady Thomas and Dillon at No. 3, both collecting a 6-3 victory. Paz and Dillon also picked up two singles points at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions.
KNOWING YOUR OPPONENT: Boise State
Boise State has a 10-5 overall record with wins against Portland State and Montana State, and a five-match winning streak. The last time EWU faced the Broncos was in 2017, where Eastern lost 6-1. Overall, Boise State leads the series 12-1 with the Eagles only win in 1985 in Cheney.
KNOWING YOUR OPPONENT: Montana
The Eagles faced the Griz back in January of this year to open the 2022 spring season and fell 7-0.
EWU has an overall series record of 6-50 versus Montana with their last victory dating back to April of 2019 in a 5-2 victory at home. The Grizzlies are led by head coach Jason Brown, who enters his fifth season at the helm and holds an undefeated 9-0 overall record while 1-0 in conference play. UM picked up its lone conference win after defeating Portland State 7-0 in their last match (Feb. 27).
