Steve Scott Invitational Recap
Â
Vernice Keyes competed in the women's hammer throw and placed first with a mark of 179-1.Â
Â
"
Vernice Keyes led the way at the Steve Scott invitational for the Eastern women today. She won the women's hammer throw and had a solid mark at near 180 feet. That should be a confidence boost for her as we get closer to the Big Sky Conference Championships," explained head women's coach
Marcia Mecklenburg.
Â
Maggie Nelson competed in the women's javelin throw and placed third with a mark of 141-5.Â
Â
Mecklenburg stated, "Nelson also competed at the Steve Scott invitational today and placed third in the javelin. She's been nursing a couple of injuries, so it was good to see her get back into competing again. That will probably be her last meet until the Big Sky Conference heptathlon competition."Â
Â
Colton Kautz competed in the men's hammer throw and placed fourth with a mark of 193-7.Â
Â
"On the women's side, tomorrow our vaulters will be competing.
Katrina Terry will lead that group and hopefully we will be able to get
Savannah Schultz and
Hally Ruff over 13 feet," stated Mecklenburg.Â

Oregon State High Performance Meet Recap
"Oregon State University highlights the distance events in a special distance carnival on the Friday night of their high-performance meet. The heats are always loaded with athletes, and they get to run under the lights so it's a very special atmosphere. Our athletes tend to do really well at the Distance Carnival, and it was no different this year. We had a large number of personal record performances in the meet. We also had a couple of distance runners move up on the all-time top-ten list in their events," stated Mecklenburg.Â
Â
Stuard competed in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase invitational and placed sixth with a time of 9:12.66. This time sets a new all-time top-ten record in the Eastern Washington University record book. He is now eighth on the list in that event.Â
"The distance carnival was as good as advertised. Nearly every member of our distance crew got a personal record while running under the lights during a soft rainfall classic western Oregon weather conditions. Roosma won the steeplechase while
Noah Hasselblad continued to drop his time in the 5k," explained Kerr.
Â
Roosma also competed in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase invitational and placed first with a time of 8:59.78.
Jamie Christner also competed and placed eighth with a time of 9:38.90.Â
Â
"The 1-2 punch of Kautz and Peoples in the hammer throw shined brightly today. Peoples won the hammer at the Oregon State High Performance Meet while Kautz had a season best throw at the Steve Scott Invitational in California," explained head men's coach
Stan Kerr.
Â
Peoples competed in the men's hammer throw and placed first with a mark of 180-2. Alaxander Grimes also competed and placed seventh with a mark of 167-10.Â
Â
"Vaulting in less-than-ideal weather conditions, Freitag still won the vault and was just short of matching his season best vault. He's having a great runs of meets heading into the Big Sky Championships," stated Kerr.Â
Â
Freitag competed in the men's pole vault and placed first with a mark of 16-0.
John Grieshaber also competed and placed fifth with a mark of 15-0 1/4.
Â
Logan Allen and
Liam Bracken competed in the men's 200-meter dash and placed sixth and seventh. Allen placed sixth with a time of 22.10. Bracken placed seventh with a time of 22.25.Â
Â

Â
Alec Kness competed in the men's 1,500-meter open and placed eighth with a time of 3:59.22.Â
Â

"Top performers for the women in the distance events were Fetzer in the 3,000-meter steepleshase and her teammate Sheley.  Fetzer moved up a couple slots on the all-time top-ten list and Sheley moved to the all-time top-ten list for the first time. They both ran huge personal records and Fetzer won her heat," stated Mecklenburg.
For the women Fetzer competed in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase open and placed first with a time of 11:03.85. This time sets a new record in the EWU record book on the all-time top-ten list. She is now seventh on the list for this event. Sheley also competed and placed third with a mark of 11:21.14. This mark also set a new all-time top-ten mark in the EWU record book placing her tenth on the list.Â
Â
"On the running side of the events
Katie Petsch had the top place with a fourth place finish in the 200-meter.  Our top 400-meter hurdler of the day was
Madelyn Knight with a personal record and an eighth place finish. Knight has been excelling more in the 100-meter hurdles this season so it's good to see her bring down her 400-meter hurdle time. We have a solid group of women in the 400-meter hurdles this year and Knight has now moved into that mix," stated Mecklenburg. "Those were the only two running events of the day that didn't take place in the distance carnival. The distance carnival is a night section of the meet for most of the distance events."
Â
Petsch competed in the women's 200-meter dash and placed fourth with a time of 25.07.Â
Â
Knight and
Alyssa Hoffman competed in the women's 400-meter hurdles and placed eighth and ninth. Knight placed eighth with a time of 1:05.02. Hoffman placed ninth with a time of 1:05.28.Â
Mecklenburg explained "In the 5,000-meter we had Nicole Deherrera who finished sixth with a 27 second personal record and teammates
Jasmin Muneton finished ninth in that heat. Ellie Linnenburger and
Maddie Drennen ran personal records in the 5,000-meter with Drennen finishing third in her heat."
Â
For the women's 5,000-meter open Deherrera and Muneton competed and placed sixth and ninth. Deherrera placed sixth with a time of 17:35.53. Muneton placed ninth with a time of 17:50.06.Â
Â
"I think we had someone in the finals of all four field events that took place today so in addition to the pole vault,
Hayden McAuliff made it to the finals in the long jump,
Vatoria Keyes made it to the finals in the discus with a personal record, and
Carissa Stovall made it to the finals in the hammer throw," explained Mecklenburg.Â
Â
McAuliff competed for the women's long jump and placed eighth with a mark of 17-5 1/2.
Â
Vatoria Keyes competed in the women's discus throw and placed ninth with a mark of 132-02.Â
Â
For the women's hammer throw Stovall competed and placed ninth with a mark of 160-10.Â
Â
Mecklenburg explained, "We were able to get through most of the regular meet events before the rain started. We couldn't have asked for better weather early on.
Rosalie Folger-Vent took advantage of that early nice weather and had the top field event place today with a fifth place finish in the pole vault. It was her first meet competing without her teammates this season and she did a great job."
Â
For the women's pole vault, Folger-Vent competed and placed fifth with a mark of 11-6 1/2.
Mecklenburg stated, "I think that's the best meet our distance crew has had in a while. Coach Read is doing a great job with those athletes."

More Quotes from Marcia Mecklenburg
"In the 1,500-meter
Allie Andrews won her heat with a personal record, adding to the personal records that EWU was stacking up. Madi Carr and
Jenni Bissell got bumped around during their race of the 1,500-meter but also still managed to run personal record performances.
Kenzie Gaines took out her heat of the 1,500-meter and led from start to the last 50 where she was passed by two other athletes including her teammate,
Megan Pitzman. Both of those athletes also ran personal records,"Â
