Multiple Eagles Place as the Spokane Indoor Challenge Ends

Both the men’s and women’s teams found success on Saturday

The Spokane Indoor Challenge concluded for Eastern Washington track and field on Saturday (Jan. 14). The two-day competition was held in Spokane at The Podium.

"First meet of 2023 in the books! We got to knock off the holiday rust and it felt good to be back competing," head coach Erin Tucker said. "We had some great performances this weekend and we had some performances that will get better as we progress through the season. I love our energy and fight. We look forward to seeing bigger things as the season goes on!"

Savannah Schultz lived up to the Eastern pole-vaulting standard, tying for the top spot in the event after clearing 12-4 1/2. Hally Ruff was right behind in third after clearing 12-4 1/2.

On the men's side, Zach Klobutcher placed second after clearing 16-11 1/2 and topping his career-best to solidify his spot at number two on the program's top 10 list. Brayden Freitag placed fourth (15-5 3/4) and Corbin Luce was sixth (15-5 3/4).

Bobby Say would post a 50-10 1/4 jump to take second in the men's triple jump. His jump was a career-best and improved his distance at the number three spot on the program's top 10 list.

Madelyn Knight posted a time of 8.77 seconds in the women's 60-meter hurdles in the preliminary race to qualify for the finals. Her time is the third fastest in program history. Knight would place fifth in the event with a time of 8.94 seconds. The Walla Walla, Wash. native already held the sixth best time on the top 10 list.

In the women's weight throw, Dyvhine Fonoti took second with a 53-8 1/4 throw. Kaitlyn Paller placed fourth behind Fonoti with a 51-8 1/2.

Following suit, Bradley Fillis placed second in the men's shot put with a 52.10 1/4 throw.

The Eagles had a pair of strong finishes in the women's 3000-meter run, as Kaylin Sheley placed second (10:34.77) and Nicole Deherrera placed fourth (10:37.11)

Marcus Lemon delivered with a fourth-place finish in the men's one mile run. Lemon earned a time of 4:26.16.

In the women's shot put, Carissa Stovall and Kaiah Fisher went four-five with throws of 44.2 and 43-0 1/4 respectively.

Noah Hasselblad finished fifth in the men's 3000-meter run with a time of 8:28.30.

In the men's 60-meter dash, Joe Gauthier placed fifth with a time of 6.92 seconds.

Madilynn Carr earned fourth in the women's one mile run, finishing with a time of 5:09.30.
