Eastern Washington women's tennis faced Portland at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse today (Feb. 19). The Eagles fell in the match, 6-1, picking up a point in singles. Eastern's record now sits at 2-2 on the year and Portland improves to 5-2.
"I thought we came out in doubles with really good energy and we had good opportunities. We didn't execute in some of the points where we needed to and that was the main difference," head coach
Dustin Hinson said. "I'm really happy with how well
Renata Gabuzyan played to come back in her match. She's playing with good aggressive shots and committing to her game plan. We competed pretty well overall in singles, but weren't able to do enough to come out on top in some close situations. We have a lot to build upon and will get back to work this week to prepare for our matches next weekend."
Gabuzyan earned a win at the No. 4 singles position, defeating Portland's Meagan Pearson. After dropping the first set 4-6, Gabuzyan came back wot win set two, 6-2. She followed up with an 11-9 win in tiebreakers.
