Eastern Washington University women's tennis opened Big Sky Conference play today (March 1) at Idaho and fell short, 2-5 in Moscow, Idaho. The Eagles move to a 2-5Â after the loss and face their third WCC opponent this weekend.
"It was a tough loss today. We had some good opportunities in doubles but couldn't find a way to come out on top there," head coach Dustin Hinson said. "We competed really well in singles and worked on finding a way to win in our matches. We just came up short. We had two very good wins for [Scout] Mathews and [Renata] Gabuzyan in singles. We have some good matches coming up and we will be ready to continue battling tough out there."
EWU earned a win in doubles play, with Renata Gabuzyan teaming up with Kenzington Mann at the No. 2 spot for a 7-5 victory.
In singles, Gabuzyan followed suit to find victory over Saffron Dowse (6-7, 6-4, 6-4) at the No. 4 spot. Scout Mathews found success at No. 1, winning 7-5, 6-4 to give Eastern two points in the match.
