In a tough matchup today (March 11), Eastern Washington women's tennis fell to No. 63 Northern Arizona, 0-7, at the Jim Thorpe Field House.
"We faced a tough team today. They came out and played aggressively and did a lot of things well," head coach
Dustin Hinson said. "I thought we had good effort and good focus out there today. We looked for ways to change things up when things were going NAU's way. Ultimately, it wasn't enough to turn the matches around. I continue to be impressed with the play of our senior captain,
Renata Gabuzyan. She didn't come out on top today in singles, but she was right there at the end and lost in a deciding tiebreaker. We definitely have some things to learn from and work on this week in practice. All we can do is continue to put in the time and effort during the week and mentally prepare ourselves for the next opportunity."
NAU won the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots.
Isabella Foshee and
Jennifer Kida were leading 4-2 in the No. 3 doubles match, but the match was not finished.
Renata Gabuzyan put in a strong effort at the No. 2 singles spot, winning the first set 6-4. Against the 'Jacks Ana Guadiana, Gabuzyan dropped the second set, 5-7 and 9-11 in the tiebreaker.
Leandra Nizetic also competed well at the No. 4 position against Daryna Shoshyna. The freshman fell 4-6 in set one but battled in the second set. Nizetic untimely came up short, 6-7 in the second and 3-0 in the tiebreaker.
