The Eastern Washington University women's tennis team begin its four-match travel schedule as they hit the road this week for two matches in California. The Eagles take on San Jose State tomorrow, Wednesday, March 29 at 12 p.m. Pacific Time at the
Spartan Tennis Complex in San Jose, Calif. The Eagles then travel to Sacramento, Calif., on Friday, March 31 to resume Big Sky Conference play against Sac. St, with first serve set for 1 p.m. PT at the
Sacramento State Tennis Courts.

Eastern Washington returns to the courts with a 2-9 overall and 0-3 conference record. EWU recently hosted North Dakota and Idaho State last time out and dropped both matches to a close score of 4-3.
The Eagles found success against UND in singles play, with
Scout Mathews,
Jennifer Kida and
Leandra Nizetic each picking up a win.
Mathews continued her success against ISU, defeating her opponent again in singles play, while
Isabella Foshee and
Kenzington Mann collected two more singles wins for EWU. In addition, Mann and
Renata Gabuzyan took down ISU at the No. 3 doubles.
Scouting San Jose State
The Eagles have faced the Spartans only three times in school history, holding a 1-2 all-time series record. The last time both programs faced off dates back to March of 2012 when EWU fell 7-0.
San Jose State holds a 7-6 overall and 2-0 Mountain West Conference record. They are led by Chad Skorupka who enters his eighth season at the helm. Skorupka is a two-time Mountain West Coach of the Year (2017, 2021) and currently leads his squad on a two-match winning streak.
Scouting Sacramento State
The Eagles hold an all-time series record of 2-17 versus the Hornets, with a two-match winning streak following their last two outings. The streak began with Eastern hosting Sac. St. on senior day of 2019, in which EWU took down the Hornets 5-2.
In the 2022 season, the Eagles welcomed Sac. St. to the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse and vanquished the Hornets 5-2 following dominant singles play performances.
Jennifer Kida,
Renata Gabuzyan and
Isabella Foshee each found victory that day. In doubles play, Kida and newly departed
Yasmin Mansouri teamed up to defeat their opponents, along with Foshee and
Scout Mathews to win over the doubles point.
The Hornets are led by Sophie Breault, who enters her second season at the helm. Breault currently leads her squad to an overall 6-7 and 2-1 conference record. In league-play, Sac. St. took down both Montana (5-2) and Montana State (4-3) while falling to Portland State (5-2).
