Men’s Tennis hosts final Big Sky Conference matches this weekend

Eastern welcomes Portland State on Saturday and Weber State on Sunday for Senior Day

The Eastern Washington University men's tennis team concludes Big Sky Conference play this weekend as they welcome Portland State on Saturday, April 22 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time. The next day, EWU hosts Weber State on Sunday, April 23 at 11 a.m. PT. The Eagles will be honoring Bruno Ortega for Senior Day before the match against the Wildcats.

EWU continues to search for its first league win of the season as they sit 0-5 in conference play and 4-11 overall. Eastern returns after hosting Idaho State last Friday and falling 6-1 inside the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse. The lone senior, Bruno Ortega, collected EWU's only point after winning at the No. 5 singles spot, defeating Wikus Robbertse in two sets (6-2, 6-4).

Scouting Portland State

The Eagles have an overall series record of 15-7 and look to snap a four-match losing streak against Portland State. Eastern fell to the Vikings 4-3 on the road last time out, but found success after taking the doubles point and two singles wins in Steven Paz and Drew Dillon.

The Vikings are led by head coach Vetu Mam, who enters his fourth season at the helm. Portland State currently sits at 6-12 overall and 1-4 in conference play, with a four-match losing streak. The Vikings fell to Montana in their previous match.

Scouting Weber State

The Eagles have an overall series record of 9-13 and will fight to break a three-match losing streak against the Wildcats after falling 1-6 in their last time out. Erik Sarlvik picked up the lone singles win after taking down Elyes Marouani in two sets at the No. 3 spot (7-5, 6-4).

Weber State is 11-8 overall and coming off a 6-1 loss to Northern Arizona last week. The team marks a 4-1 conference record, led by Brad Ferreira who enters his seventh year at the helm.
