Eastern Washington men's tennis played its penultimate match of the regular season on Saturday (April 22), hosting Portland State at the EWU Tennis Courts. The Vikings defeated the Eagles, 4-3, after trailing 3-2 in the match. Eastern is now 4-12 overall and 0-6 in the Big Sky. Portland State improved to 7-13 this season and 2-5 in conference.
The Eagles opened strong, winning the doubles point to put them in the lead.
Bruno Ortega and
Drew Dillon defeated Andrea Bringnacca and Simon Kuszynski, 7-6, at the No. 2 doubles match. At the No. 3 doubles,
Erik Sarlvik joined up with
Brady Thomas to defeat Jan Semerak and Andrin Zuellig, 7-6.
In singles, Portland St. would get wins at the No. 3 and 4 positions to take the lead in the match.
Ortega would win his second match of the day (6-2, 6-3) over Zuellig, playing at the No. 5 spot. Then at the No. 6 spot, Dillon earned a two-set win (7-6, 6-4) over Gregory Gruenig.
The Vikings rallied to win the last two singles and take the match, 4-3.
