FARMINGTON, Utah — Only ten games into her Eastern Washington career,
Elyn Bowers earns her first career Big Sky Player of the Week award. Bowers was a key contributor to Eastern's
71-69 win over Washington State last Wednesday. The win was the Eagles first over the Cougars since 2015.
Against WSU, Bowers scored 20 points on 9-of-17(52.9%) shooting, while going 2-of-5(40.0%) from the three-point line. It was Bowers' second 20-point game of the season. The Pinedale, Wyo. native showed up all over the court, tallying seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Early in her career, Bowers is showing her scoring efficiency, ranking seventh in the conference with a 42.7 shooting percentage this season. The freshman's 14.0 points per game is 9th in league and tied with Jaecy Eggers for the EWU lead. Bowers has scored in double figures in 8-of-10 games to start her Eagle career.
Earlier this season against Gonzaga, Bowers scored her season-best 21 points.
Bowers adds 2.4 assists per game, second on the team and tied for 16th in the Big Sky.
The Eagles have now won Player of the Week in consecutive weeks after Jaecy Eggers earned the honor last week, also her first weekly award.
Eastern is on the road for two games this week, facing UC Santa Barbara on Thursday at 6 pm (Dec. 18) and CSU Bakersfield on Saturday (Dec. 20).
