Golf tees off in Nashville, women’s tennis finishes Cali road trip, men’s tennis stays close to home this weekend

CHENEY, Wash. — Eastern Washington is enjoying its spring break this week but the Eagles continue their seasons. Women's tennis remains in California for its second match this afternoon against Pacific. Women's golf resumes competition and begins its two-day tournament in Nashville. Men's tennis has a short road trip to Spokane for a non-conference match on Saturday.

Women's Golf – at The Nashville Invitational (Monday-Tuesday, March 24-25, All Day)

Eastern travels to Tennessee for its third tournament of the spring at the Nashville Invitational, competing in Nashville for two days. EWU will play two rounds on Monday, followed by one round on Tuesday to complete the tournament. The tournament is held at the President's Reserve of Hermitage Golf Course. 

The Eagles were off last week after competing at the
Pizza Hut Invitational in St. George Utah, hosted by Southern Utah University. At the Invite, Gabriella Ilardi tied for 32nd on the individual leaderboard with a 226 (+10) score. Kami Twining placed 52 after shooting 235 (+19), with Berkley Ledesma finishing 55th with a 236 (+20) score. Eastern placed 11th on the team standings, shooting 938 overall. 

Women's Tennis –
 at Pacific (Monday, March 24, 1 PM Pacific Time)
The Eagles play their second match in two days today, traveling from Sacramento to Stockton to face Pacific. The match will begin at 1 p.m. 
EWU dropped a tough matchup against Sacramento State on Sunday, falling 7-0 to the Hornets. Sac. St. extended its shutout streak to four matches with the win.

Kenzington Mann and Isabella Foshee battled in the No. 2 doubles match, taking a 5-4 game lead. The Hornets duo Madelyn Ferreros and Irene Riva stormed back to win the next three games and take the match. Zoe Pradel went against Emilija Pranyte in the No. 4 singles match, fighting in a two-set loss. Pradel closed a 4-1 deficit in the second set to 4-3, but Pranyte closed out the freshman 6-4 in the set for the match win. 

Foshee and Leandra Nizetic each have four wins in singles this season, with Foshee playing primarily at No. 1 and Nizetic splitting matches at No. 2 and 3. In doubles, Foshee and Man have paired together at the No. 1 spot for a 2-4 record. 


Men's Tennis – at Whitworth (Saturday, March 9, 5 PM Pacific Time)


EWU is back on the courts this coming weekend for a regional matchup against Whitworth on Saturday. The match begins at 5 p.m. 

The Eagles have been idle for a week after matches against Sacramento State and No. 61 Pacific. The Hornets
defeated Eastern 7-0, while the Tigers won 6-1. Sac. St. won all doubles and singles matches to earn the sweep. Arshjot Bhatti, playing at No. 5 singles, competed tough against Martin Duris, falling 6-4, 6-2. Tyler Dalos also played well in singles at No. 2, falling 6-2, 6-4 to Gur Libal.

Against Pacific, Caden Kammerer won the point for Eastern at No. 4 singles, defeating Vraj Patel, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. The win was Kammerer's team-leading seventh in singles this season. Brady Thomas nearly secured another win for the Eagles at the No. 6 spot, going to a third-set tiebreaker, but coming up short 10-4. Tyler Waddock battled tough at No. 1 against Justas Trainauskas, but dropping the match ultimately,  6-4, 7-6 (7-5).


Kammerer is 7-7 this season overall, playing primarily at the no. 4 spot for singles. Waddock is right behind with a 6-9 record, all in the No. 1 position. Kammerer and Waddock have joined together for doubles, registering a 2-2 record.
