Parker Bowden's Bid for Berth in NCAA Championships Stalled by Weather

Frequent thunderstorms in College Station, Texas, postpones most of Friday's action to Saturday

Link to Information, Schedule and Results

Parker Bowden's quest for Eugene, Ore., was sidetracked by weather Friday (May 28) in College Station, Texas.

Due to inclement weather, the remainder of Friday's competition in the NCAA West Regional Track and Field Meet was postponed and will be made up on Saturday (May 29). As a result, races for Bowden in the 110-meter hurdles and Justin Roosma in the 3,000-meter steeplechase were wiped out Friday.

The top 12 finishers in those two events will advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene on June 9-12. Bowden, a senior out of Spokane's Central Valley High School, finished second in his heat in Wednesday's preliminaries with a time of 13.85 to automatically advance to the quarterfinals where a total of 24 athletes will compete.

The revised schedule was eventually posted by meet management, and the schedule and results may be accessed by CLICKING HERE. The 110 hurdles quarterfinals are scheduled for 10:45 a.m. Pacific time, and the steeplechase is at 2:10 Pacific time. However, Roosma will not be able to compete on Saturday at that time for faith-based reasons.

Earlier on Friday, the results of the women's hammer throw were officially released and EWU's Vernice Keyes placed 40th with a throw of 182-11. Technical issues in that event on Thursday (May 27) delayed the conclusion.

Also on Thursday, EWU senior Morgan Fossen punched her ticket for Eugene by clearing 13-8 1/4 in the pole vault, which was good enough to advance her to the finals in Eugene, Ore. A 2016 graduate of North Medford (Ore.) High School, she will be among the field of 24 competing on Thursday, June 10, at 4 p.m. Pacific time.

She becomes Eastern's first participant at the NCAA Championships since 2014, and just the second pole vaulter to qualify. Keisa Monterola qualified 2012 but was unable to compete for personal reasons.
